Introductory Bird-Bander Training, August 9-15, 2009
Puget Sound Bird Observatory's Cascades Banding Camp trains teens and adults in bird-banding techniques. Learn how to band birds in Washington's Cascade Mountains. This seven-day camping adventure will feature riparian and mountain birding and banding at several locations with opportunities to see and possibly handle great Northwest birds like Williamson's Sapsucker, Hammond's Flycatcher, and MacGillivray's Warbler. The training will focus on the basics of net placement, bird handling and net extraction, ageing and sexing, with special emphasis on molts and plumages. Banding will occur on seven mornings with seven nights of camping at a semi-remote campground. No birding or banding experience is necessary. Fee - $700 or $650 for PSBO members, plus $50 for books. Limited financial aid is available. Fee includes food during the camp. For more information and to register, please check out our website at http://www.pugetsoundbirds.org/index.php?pg=classes
